Alumni Engagement

Distinguished alumni members have been first vice chancellors of different universities, such as Dr. S. N. Das Gupta (1925) of the Kalyani University, Dr. P.N. Bhaduri (1931) Burdwan University and Dr. S.B. Chattopadhyay (1943) BCKV, Nadia. Several alumni members have established new department such as Dr. P.K. Sen (1930), as the Khoira Professor established Agriculture Department, Dr. DN. Dey (1954) established Agricultural Technology at IIT, Kharagpur. Few members have established the department of Botany in different colleges of eastern India.
Eminent plant cytogeneticist Professor A.K. Sharma (1945) served this department as the UGC Professor, Jawaharlal Nehru Fellow, INSA Golden Jubilee Professor and Sir Rash Behari Ghosh Professor. He has been instrumental in projecting this department as the Centre of Excellence and projected Cytogenetics and Cell Biology as the UGC Leader Project as Centre of Advanced Study in Botany since 1972. Prof. Sharma had been elected as the President of Indian National Science Academy, General President of the Indian Science Congress Association. At present the Alumni Association is involved in running interesting subjects related to botany.
